We may be crazy....

We moved into this house on July 14, 2007 due to relocation from out of state for a job. It was nothing short of a miracle we landed at this house. Looking back we can see many blessings that weren’t even on our minds while we were looking for a home back then. God was in it. I think we plan to stay here for some time to come. Family nearby, our kids rooted in the local elementary, middle school and high school, great neighbors and a pretty laid back neighborhood are some of the perks.

I was settling into the new job a week after we moved and since then we have really only tackled some small jobs inside and outside the house. The first one was to paint the living room and hall way. We had that done by Thanksgiving 2007.  Our second task was a bit more audacious as we remodeled the master bath. My dad and I put in muscle and pulled the shower stall out to replace the rotting backboard. We finished the project by installing tile inside the shower. With a few small projects and a broken foot in between I installed a rock retaining wall in our front year in the course of a little more than a year. All the time a number of rooms in the house have been crying out for some of its own tender loving care.

I’d venture to say our kitchen was the worse. The previous owners literally put 'lipstick on a pig' (literally, they did...awkward) to sell this house. They slapped a coat of paint on the worn out kitchen cabinets, strategically hung curtains and wall hangings to hide wall blemishes and laid ‘peel and stick’ tile flooring in the kitchen. As we moved in and started living in the house these ‘lipstick’ marks quickly wore off. Between lack of time and lack of dollars we lived in the middle of it. But now the time has come! Four years and four days later....

We may be crazy but we are planning to totally remodel our kitchen and living room in the course of eight days (so long vacation time!) We are working on a tight budget and to save the most money I will be doing the majority of the work. This blog will journal that adventure....
